Connect to Your Deck - Deck Interview Card Spread

Connect to Your Deck - Deck Interview Card Spread
Hey lovely Altar Fam!

When you purchase or are gifted a new tarot or oracle deck, it is always so exciting to open it up, immerse yourself in the cards, soaking up the imagery, but what next?

There are so many gorgeous decks on the market, it is easy to end up with more than one (guilty!), but to ensure that you are really getting the most out of your new deck, it is important to really connect with it and begin to get an understanding of just how you can work with it.

There are so many resources out there to get you started on your journey, whether it be a fabulous book, blog, online communities and even YouTube videos that provide some fabulous insights. Along the way, you are going to find so many different card spreads to help you work through different questions and themes, but before you dive in, a deck interview spread is a great way to get a feel for the personality of your deck and how you can get the most out of its unique perspective and energy.

I have created the above spread to help kickstart your relationship with your new deck. I have taken bits and pieces from different spreads I have used and added the questions that have worked fantastically for me on my journey.

Please feel free to add, subtract or change up any of these prompts to make this spread perfect for you.

Also - there are some potential swap out alternatives for card 2;
- Do you tackle big life events or day to day scenarios?
- What element do you resonate with?

The reason I chose ‘What themes do you align with?’ in the spread you see below is because this feels comfiest for me. I also feel it is a broader question and can also be applied to oracle decks that may not have the same clear elemental associations or clearly defined associated life experiences that tarot cards do.

I would love to know what you think!

I can’t imagine working with a deck now without sitting down and working through this spread. It has really helped me get to know my decks so much better and clearly helps me understand their individuals roles and I hope it is a useful tool for you too.

Enjoy Altar Fam! 💕
