Tarot and Oracle Decks Coming to Altar in 2021 {PART 2}

Hey all! So I thought it was about time I did a little update on our incoming tarot range for 2021. I shared my first blog post back in February which you can check out here; Tarot and Oracle Decks Coming to Altar in 2021 (Part 1)

Some of those decks have come in and already sold out, some are on re-order and some we are still waiting to arrive here at Altar. HQ!But did you really think that the decks I mentioned in my last blog were the only decks coming for 2021!? Come on now!! ;-)

Moon Baby Tarot by Brant Palazzo
Expected arrival - September 2021

Directly inspired by the famous Hoi Polloi tarot from the 1970s, Brant brings to life this gorgeous deck in a way that can only be described as a faithful love letter to this iconic 70s interpretation of the classic Rider-Waite. For many in the tarot community, the original Hoi Polloi has been loved and lusted over as an iconic but often untouchable collector item either due to its scarcity on the market or just how exxy these decks can be when in sold in good condition.

I've got to say that Brant has done just such a gorgeous job in bringing this modern recreation to life. The Hoi Polloi has been a deck I have shamelessly stalked across the internet for a while now and if I am honest, I truly think Brant's interpretation is more gorgeous than the original.

The deck will be have super sweet matte baby pink edging with each deck will be individually numbered as this is a limited printing! I suspect Brant may look to reprint in the future due to the popularity of the launch but it is exciting to know that we will stock the first edition run!

PVRGATORIVM by Jens Friborg
Expected arrival - September 2021

I have been following Jens Friborg and his journey to bring PVRGATORIVM to life since last year and I was so excited when I reached out to discuss the possibility of Altar stocking this incredible deck.

This gorgeous deck is a 70 card oracle deck for divination based on the model of loss by Dr. Kübler-Ross combined with the Mantegna Tarot system while drawing stunning inspiration from the European practice of burning witches to save their immortal souls.

I fell in love with the concept of this deck because of the dark, but stylistically classic imagery, reminiscent of something from classical mythology or a religious text. It is dark, it is beckoning and it is shows no mercy. Jens' was inspired by illustrations popular in the European 'burning times' when men and women accused of witchcraft were burned in order to be 'saved'.

This ain't your 'love and light', 'live, laugh love', warm-fuzzy affirmation deck. This deck is asking you... are you ready to truly look into your shadows?

From the creator - 'PVRGATORIVM (The Vs are pronounced as U) is the Catholic version of Hell where the souls are purified in order to move on to Heaven. The fire destroys and transforms. It is a process of spiritual growth albeit a painful one. This is exactly what these cards are intended to do. By examining seemingly dark scenarios you are able to acknowledge your darker sides and shed light. Purgatory is therefore not something to be afraid of but rather something we all must go through (acc. to Catholic belief) in order to transcend to a higher state of being.

The dramatic themes of purgatory, the witches and the demons serve as an allegory to explain the painful yet healing process from the state of shock to the state of acceptance.

The cards are divided into 10 septenaries that represent the seven stages of loss (shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing and acceptance) multiplied by the ten stages of the human condition (earthly life) and the planets and outer spheres (outer life) as depicted in the Mantegna Tarot. Having knowledge of these systems enhances your pleasure in working with the cards, but is by no means essential to your working with them.'

Omni Tarot by Olivia M Healy
Expected arrival - October 2021
Olivia is an artist who creates stunningly bold figurative work that aims to empower feminine identities and the explore the diversity of gender expression. My Omni Tarot Deck is a modern take on tarot which draws from ancient and occult influences, as well as contemporary subcultures. The deck explores identity and self-discovery and our relationship to nature and the universe.

The moment I saw this deck I knew I couldn't pass it by. The imagery is ethereal yet boldly modern and the colour palette is to die for.

The Arcana Mortis Tarot by  Mandeep Singh
Expected arrival - Late August 2021

The Arcana Mortis Tarot, created by Mvndeep explores themes of mythology and the idea of 'Memento Mori'.

Each of the cards incorporate imagery that mixes mythical ideas and characters, giving the deck a fantastical and almost archaic feel. Most cards invoke the imageries of deities, mythical creatures, legends in an attempt to aid in the exploration of the self and other spiritual matters.

Each suit is illustrated with various being from all walks of life, some inherently more human-like and others more angelic, occult or even godly beings. The mingling of the divine, occult and the human is a persistent theme throughout the Arcana Mortis tarot.

From the creator - 'Memento Mori is a powerful phrase. It literally translates into "Remember, you must die", and as morbid as that sounds it is a powerful philosophy that everyone should live by. This deck marries the concepts of life and death and urges the user to contemplate their questions and thoughts in the context of these larger ideas. Whatever the cards say, they say it with a reminder of memento mori. Let your actions reflect the thoughts that nothing is permanent, so make the most of your time and be your best self.

The suits I chose for the Minor Arcana have been changed to Daggers (swords), Goblets (cups), Coins (pentacles), and Staffs (wands) as a way to reflect the aesthetic and symbolism of the deck. Each of the cards incorporate imagery that mixes mythical ideas and characters, giving the deck a fantastical and almost archaic feel. Most cards invoke the imageries of deities, mythical creatures, legends in an attempt to aid in the exploration of the self and other spiritual matters.

If nothing else, the cards act as art pieces that stand by themselves as a collection of illustrations for you to enjoy!'
